Pease Pudding hot, Pease Pudding cold

Trying a new recipe for the Darlington summer market season

Darlington are launching a new summer themed evening market called the Pease Pudding market – it’ll be running on the 1st Thursday of each month starting in June – featuring food vendors including of course the Falafel Fella. There’ll also be craft ales, artists, stalls and music and entertainment.

Pease pudding‘s not new to residents of the north of England, though it’s not something Mouyhedin would have come across before. If you haven’t heard of it, it’s a thick soup-like savoury dish usually made from yellow split peas, water, salt and spices. It’s pretty similar to houmous, being made of a legume not a million miles from chickpeas.

We’re continuing to grow the Syria-Darlington relationship with Mouyhedin’s take on a pease pudding falafel which we’ve been working on in the kitchen this week… if you’d like a sneak preview before the official market starts in June, come along on Easter Monday (22nd April 2019) to the stall to try them for yourselves… feedback welcome!

Ours’ll be freshly made of course, and not nine days old, as the rhyme goes.
